Shawn Harrington and Patrick Beverley have a West Side upbringing and Marshall High School basketball in common, along with a belief that ferocity trumps finesse in the game they love.
Beverley, cornerback-quick and linebacker-strong at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, has been proving the point in the NBA playoffs, the hard-edged leader of the Rockets' success in negating the triple-double firepower of the Thunder's Russell Westbrook.
The camp has always been affiliated with Athletes United for Peace, a national non-profit organization that is in Berkeley, Calif., Chicago, El Paso and New York City and the UN. Steve Yellen, a former UTEP player and now a financial adviser, is the president of the organization.
"Bradburd is a dribbling master who has worked individually with NBA players and conducted ball handling clinics around the world. He and Yellen have kept the Mini-Dribblers as part of a staple in the El Paso and Las Cruces youth athletic scene."
