Progress and Paradox: Women’s Leadership in Sport After Title IX

Tuesday, March 10, 2026
6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Virtual Event

Part of the United Nations CSW70 Forum / Parallel Events, this timely discussion examines one of the most important questions in global sport today:

How can sport workplaces strengthen female leadership while creating welcoming and inclusive environments for girls and women worldwide?

The session explores the legacy of Title IX — the landmark U.S. law that prohibited sex discrimination in federally funded education programs and dramatically expanded athletic opportunities for women and girls. Yet while participation increased significantly, the number of women coaches and leaders declined, revealing a striking paradox that continues to shape sport systems globally.

Featuring Title IX’s prime mover Dr. Mimi Murray alongside leading scholars and athletes, this conversation will examine how similar leadership gaps are emerging internationally and share practical, forward-looking strategies to advance gender equality in sport leadership.

Organized by Athletes United for Peace Youth — Leo Liu, Connor, and John — this event brings youth leadership into the global conversation on systemic change in sport.
