| Modeled after the National Midnight Basketball Program, Berkeley Latenight is an alternative recreation program held on Friday evenings at the city's Young Adult Project, and was designed to deter young people away from crimnial activity and antisocial behavior during the time on weekends when crime rates are extremely high.
Funded by the City of Berkeley since 1993, the program offers a safe environment for young people to engage in a pre-game informational workshops that cover employment & training, community awareness, health & wellness, and continued education. Participants are also provided with mentorship from menbers of the community. Berkeley Latenight Basketball league games are on Fridays evenings at 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm. with program sessions that are conducted in the Fall, Sping and Summer. The program also holds an outdoor summer session at the University of California Berkeley's People's Park.
